Westcoast Energy GP Inc. on behalf of Westcoast Energy Limited Partnership – Birch Grove Program

Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park, Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Project Background

Westcoast Energy GP Inc. on behalf of Westcoast Energy Limited Partnership (Westcoast), has filed an application for the Birch Grove Program. The project involves expanding the Transmission North (T North) system through a pipeline loop and targeted upgrades to existing compressor stations. T North is a division of Westcoast’s BC Pipeline system, a natural gas transmission network extending from Alberta and northern British Columbia to the Canada–United States border near Huntingdon, British Columbia. The scope of work includes the installation of a new NPS 36 pipeline segment, approximately 32 km in length, to loop the existing Fort St. John Mainline from KP 16.2 to KP 48.2. It also includes targeted upgrades and ancillary works at Compressor Stations 01, 2, and 16 to support reliable and efficient natural gas flow on the expanded T‑North system. These upgrades comprise cooling facility additions, piping and filter installations, control system modifications, and tie‑ins within existing station boundaries. Additionally, the project will restore the maximum operating pressure of the Boundary Lake Pipeline from 6067 kPa (880 psi) to 6895 kPa (1000 psi) between KP 49.586 and KP 49.928.

Project construction is planned to commence in Q2 2027, with an expected project-in-service date of 1 August 2028.
