New Updated MOU with ECCC: Operational Annex for Compliance and Enforcement

We have updated our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). The Compliance and Enforcement Operational Annex is now in effect.

What does this mean?

The CER and ECCC are strengthening our shared approach to compliance and enforcement. We will work together to ensure the environment is protected by:

• coordinating joint inspections and investigations where our jurisdictions overlap;
• sharing information on compliance issues and enforcement actions; and
• supporting each other through training and collaboration.

This change helps us do our job better and more efficiently. We are working to simplify how we regulate energy projects in Canada. The Red Tape Reduction Initiative includes Regulatory Cooperation as one of the key initiatives. This stronger partnership with ECCC is just one of many improvements we are working on.
